TeamForge

A pilot project developed by the SEND Commissioning Team West Sussex County Council and Quest Mentoring. It's designed to help young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND), aged 13-18, learn teamwork and life skills in a fun environment. Participants will play Valheim, a Viking-themed online game, as part of the project to promote cooperation, problem-solving, and personal growth. It's free to take part but has limited spaces.

What is TeamForge?

  • TeamForge consists of two pilots, that are free to take part in, both involve online gaming for a 12 week period. The project is for young people aged 13–18 with a Special Educational Need or disability (SEND) that live in West Sussex and is designed to build teamwork and friendships. The pilots are being run and supported by experienced mentors:

  • Pilot 1: Runs in the Spring term, starting on the 22nd of January 2025 (with optional tech setup sessions in the week before if people need them) online sessions finish on the 3rd of April 2025. In-person activity date TBC.

  • Pilot 2: Runs in the Summer term, starting the week beginning 21st April 2025 and finishing the week beginning 7th July 2025. In-person activity date TBC.

  • Participants collaborate in exciting challenges while developing real-world skills, supported by the Skills Builder Framework, which has earned the project an Impact Level 4.

How Does TeamForge Work?

  • You will need an Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S or Gaming PC/ laptop plus a stable internet.

  • TeamForge includes a series of workshops and gaming sessions over the 12-week period:

  • Week 1: Tech setup sessions (for anyone that needs help with the required software installation).

  • Weeks 2 - 11: Team building workshop and a facilitated gaming session in Valheim.

  • Week 12: In-person fun activity.

  • Each week features two sessions:

  • First session: Wednesday 6pm–7pm

  • Second session: Thursday 6pm–8pm

  • Participants join engaging gaming sessions on a private Valheim server. A welcome pack provides all the information needed to get started, with ongoing support throughout the project for participants and Parent/carers.

Where Does TeamForge Take Place?

  • TeamForge is hosted entirely online, using a private Discord for communication and Valheim for gameplay. Clear guidance is provided to ensure everyone can participate confidently.
