Using Discord for Communication & Community
For participants aged 13 and over, we use Discord as our main platform for voice chat and team communication during mentoring sessions.
What is Discord?
Discord is a free online communication platform that allows users to chat via text, voice, and video in secure, private channels. It’s widely used by gaming communities and educational groups because it allows real-time interaction without needing to type during gameplay.
Why We Use Discord
-
Safe & Moderated: We use private, mentor-led servers where participants can chat safely.
-
Supports Team Play: Helps players communicate clearly in games like Fortnite, Valheim, and Rocket League.
-
Encourages Social Connection: Participants can interact in a structured, supportive environment, improving confidence and communication skills.
For younger players under 13, we use Google Meet but are open to using other voice chat software.
